What brought you to CrossFit?

I was 240lbs and diagnosed with sleep apnea and I wasn't very happy about it. I started my weight loss journey by walking every day, but it wasn't enough for me. A friend from work had told me about CrossFit and I thought I would give it a try.

What was your first impression?

After the introduction workout, I told myself that I would never do that again.  My whole body was in shock. When Jessie asked me when I want to start my two-week trial, I told him that I would have to get back to him.  After few days, mostly when I couldn't remember the first workout, I started thinking that I should just try the two weeks and see how it went.

How has that impression changed?

When doing my two-week trial, I was finding it really hard.  I remember one rowing WOD (500m, 1000m, 500m) that I was really struggling with.  I was only 100m into my last 500m and everyone else had finished.  I felt like I wasn't going to finish.  Nikki was trying to encourage me to keep going when I jokingly said, "wanna race".  I was shocked when Nikki said "ok", her 500m to my 400m.  That was the first time I really enjoyed myself at CrossFit.  I ended up finishing my 400m row before Nikki got to her 500m mark.  It was only by 4m, but that still counts.  I signed up for my 1-year membership after that.

Since then, I have really enjoyed CrossFit.  I have realized that it isn't being the strongest or the fastest, it is more about doing your best and having fun.  The trainers, staff and fellow members make that very easy.

What was your best day at CrossFit?

Funny enough, I would have to say a few weeks ago.  It was my first time doing the baseline workout since my intro, and I was able to do it almost 9 minutes faster.

What are some of your accomplishments?

My main reason for joining CrossFit was to lose weight.  I am excited with my results so far and will continue to work towards my goal.  I recently was removed from my CPAP machine and on August 19th, I tested my fitness by completing Tough Mudder.  Something I've wanted to do for awhile. It was so much fun that I have already signed up for next year.

What are your new goals?

My goal is to keep improving.  I know my technique and my cardio has room for improvement.  I am just going to remain focused on improving and have fun while doing it.

What do you love the most about CFNAC?

I always tell people how the staff has made it really easy to exercise.  You go to the "box" and a trainer and workout are waiting for you.  You only need to show up.

The truth is the friendly faces and encouraging remarks, make the hard workout worth it.
