What brought you to CrossFit?
It is something that I have always wanted to try, but last January my husband (Andrew) and I decided we needed to bite the bullet and do it.
What was your first impression?
Apart from feeling completely out of shape during the assessment my first impression was that everyone was so nice! The coaches were especially fantastic about displaying and breaking down the movements.
Coming from a traditional gym environment where no one knew your name nor cared if you showed up for class this place was the exact opposite. Members and staff are supportive, caring and encouraging for all skill levels and skill sets.
How has that impression changed?
I continue to like CrossFit more and more. The box is incredible and it has a wonderful sense of community. I feel very lucky to be a member with such fantastic and thoughtful (or sadistic haha) WOD programming and coaching. I just wish that I had joined sooner.
What was your best day at CrossFit?
That's a good question. Honestly, I think its been many different classes and events put together. The OLY class has really helped me tremendously and I wish I started that class sooner. Doing the Open this year was a big hurdle for me personally as I prefer to be at the back of the class - so to do CrossFit in front of crowd was a big deal. The 24 hour CrossFit for Special Olympics was also awesome!
What has been really special for me has been the opportunity to bring my daughter on Saturday mornings. I think it is very valuable to see her parents taking care of themselves and that we integrate CrossFit into our family.
What are some of your accomplishments?
CrossFit has had a major impact on my life. It has made me more confident in other areas of my life. As someone with an autoimmune disease it has helped me to continue challenging myself. This year I learned to climb a rope (life bucket list item) and can hand stand push ups! These are things that I never thought that I could accomplish.
What are your new goals?
A strict pull up!!!! I'd really like to focus on form, technique and strength. My current goal is to keep pushing myself in small incremental ways.
What do you love most about CFNAC?
Everything! I adore CFNAC - the members, staff and what the workouts bring out of you. I also really really like that they can adapt the programming for you no matter where you are in your journey. I say that as I have had some injuries and have been able to continue working out with adapted programming.
CFNAC has a whole package or as I like to refer to them the whole care team - the coaches, the RMT (Katrina) and physio (Jennifer). It is the whole package.
